Herrin Family Bio
The Herrin Family is a bluegrass gospel band from Fort Worth, Texas. They have been singing and ministering for approximately 16 years. They have shared the stage with Doyle Lawson & Quick Silver, Ralph Stanley, IIIrd Tyme Out, Rhonda Vincent, The Isaacs, Jesse McReynolds, Judy Martin and most recently LULU Roman(star of Hee-Haw).
BAND MEMBERS consist of:
Curry Herrin-Group Manager, vocalist and rhythm guitar.
Jeremy Herrin-26 years old-Vocalist, flat-top guitar, and banjo.
Chris Herrin-23 years old-Lead vocalist and mandolin.
John Gallant-24 years old-guitar.
Darla Gallant-John's mother-Vocalist.
Alan Tompkins-Stand-up bass.
The Herrin Family has been nominated and won several awards through the years. The Herrin Family was nominated for FOCM 1998, 2000, and 2002 Band of the Year. The Herrin Family was also nominated for STGMA 2004 Group of the Year and GMAA 2004 and 2005 Band of the Year. The band tied for 1st place in Frank Arnold's 2002 Talent Contest in Seminole, Oklahoma. The Herrin Family won FOCM 1999 Band of the Year, GMAA 2006 Band of the Year, TIMA 2008 Bluegrass Band of the Year, and most recently TIMA 2009 Lifetime Acheivement Award.
Curry has been a licensed minister since 1984. He was assistant pastor of New Life Outreach Church in River Oaks, Texas for 5 years. Curry was nominated for SGMA 1998 Song of the Year for his song entitled "Time", 2000 for his song "Mama's Words", 2003 for his song "Headed Down the Highway", and 2005, 2006 and 2007 for his song "Line Drawn in the Sand". Curry won SGMA 1999 Song of the Year for his song entitled "Take it to Jesus".
Jeremy Herrin started playing the bass guitar at the early age of 9 years old. He has excelled his talents to include mandolin, lead guitar, banjo and do-bro. He sings lead and harmony and arranges the music for their songs. Jeremy has been nominated for several awards through the years. Jeremy won SGMA 1997 Youth Musician of the Year and SGMA 1999 Youth Male Vocalist. Jeremy's song "Second Coming" was nominated SGMA 2002 Song of the Year and his song "Born Again" was nominated SGMA 2004 Song of the Year. Jeremy won SGMA 2001 Musician of the Year, STGMA 2003 Musician of the Year, SGMA 2005 Musician of the Year and GMAA 2005 Musician of the Year.
Chris Herrin started playing drums at the age of 10 years old. He sings lead and harmony and now plays the mandolin. Chris has been nominated for several awards through the years. Chris won SGMA 1998 Youth Male Vocalist and 1998 Youth Musician of the Year, SGMA 2001 Youth Male Vocalist, SGMA 2003 Youth Male Vocalist and 2004 Youth Musician of the Year. Most recently Chris won GMAA 2005 Youth Musician and 2005 Youth Male Vocalist and was nominated for GMAA 2006 Musician of the Year.
John Gallant started playing the drums at the age of 12 years old. He now plays the guitar and stand-up bass guitar. John plays a driving bass and helps out on the guitar when needed. John was nominated for GMAA 2004 Youth Musician of the Year.
Darla Gallant (mother of John) has been singing since the early age of 4 years old. Darla plays the bass guitar and was bass player/vocalist for Higher Praise Southern Gospel group in 2002. Darla has a wonderful unique bluegrass voice that is an excellent addition to The Herrins which she joined in 2003. Darla was nominated for SGMA 2003 and 2004 Female Vocalist.
The Herrin Family has performed and ministered at numerous churches, benefits, festivals, nursing homes, missions, conventions, oprys, schools, city squares, and theatres through out the country. They have performed in Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia, Nebraska, Colorado, Tennessee, Kentucky and Texas. They played two years in Branson, Missouri at the Shepherd of the Hills Theatre and several times at the Johnnie High Music Revue in Texas. They performed "live" on several radio stations and on DAYSTAR TV on the Texas Country Gospel Show as well as other television programs. They are willing to go wherever the LORD opens the Door. They are excited about singing and picking Bluegrass Music.
